What is the PVOC2 exam (Hong Kong boat licence)? +

The Pleasure Vessel Operator Certificate Grade 2 (PVOC2) is the Hong Kong boat licence issued by the Marine Department (MARDEP). It entitles you to take charge of a pleasure vessel up to 15 metres in Hong Kong waters. The exam has two computer-based parts at the PEAK Examination Centre: Part A (Navigation, Seamanship & Safety) and Part B (Engineering Knowledge). Each part is 40 multiple-choice questions in 45 minutes; the pass mark is 60% (24/40) per part. You can retain a partial pass for a limited period under MARDEP rules — check the official exam rules for current retention windows.

What is the difference between PVOC2 Part A and Part B? +

Part A — Navigation, Seamanship & Safety covers ColRegs, lights & shapes, buoyage (IALA Region A), Hong Kong local rules, chart work, tides, VHF radio, emergency procedures, and seamanship. Part B — Engineering Knowledge covers diesel and outboard engines, fuel systems, batteries & electrical, troubleshooting, fire-fighting, LPG safety, and maintenance. Pass HK Exams has 1,000+ practice questions across both parts, written to match the real exam’s format and difficulty.

How is Pass HK Exams different from the free MARDEP mock PDFs? +

MARDEP publishes free official mock papers and guidebooks — you should use them. Pass HK Exams is a practice layer on top: timed mocks that mirror the 40-question / 45-minute sitting, plain-English explanations after each answer, progress tracking, and a much larger bank of syllabus-matched questions (1,000+ across Part A and Part B). We do not replace the official syllabus or claim to be the live exam paper.

How long will it take to prepare? +

Most candidates with no prior boating knowledge need 1–2 weeks of regular study. Experienced boaters often pass in 5–7 days. Part A needs more memorisation (rules, lights, buoyage); Part B rewards understanding the underlying engineering principles. If you are booking both parts close together, leave a buffer for weak topics.

Where do I book the actual PVOC2 exam, and what is the fee? +

Book online at the PEAK Examination Centre (VTC): peak.edu.hk/exam/en/md. As of October 2026 the published fee was HK$580 per part — please check PEAK for the current fee and registration cut-off (typically a few working days before the sitting) before you book.

Can I cancel my subscription? +

Yes — cancel anytime via the Stripe Customer Portal (linked from your account page). No minimum term, no cancellation fees. Your access continues until the end of your current billing period. Subscriptions are non-refundable except where required by law. Price is HK$250 / month. Payments are processed by Stripe — we never store your card details.
